How to Use the Virus Chest in Avast Mac Security 2017

Avast Review The Avast Virus Chest is a safe place for storing potentially dangerous files, completely isolated from all of those other operating-system. Files within the Virus Chest aren’t available for any outdoors process, software program, or virus.

Files can’t be run while kept in Virus Chest. Should you double-click personal files there just the file properties are displayed. This prevents infected files from being run accidentally and potentially causing harm to your pc.

» Accessing the Virus Chest

To open the Virus Chest in Avast Mac Security 2017 follow these steps :

  1. Click the Avast Menu bar icon  on the top-right of the screen and select Open Avast to open the Avast user interface,

…alternatively, open Finder, go to Applications, and double-click the Avast icon.

  1. From the main menu, select Virus Chest and the Virus Chest window appears.

» Moving files to the Virus Chest

If Avast finds a suspicious file throughout a scan, it’ll come in the scan report. After that you are able to send the file towards the Virus Chest by clicking Chest towards the bottom from the Reports screen.

When the file or files have been moved, the Status appears as Moved to Chest.

» Restoring files from the Virus Chest

If you want to restore files in the Virus Chest to its original location, choose the preferred file (or multiple files) within the contents table around the Virus Chest screen,

…and select Restore at the bottom of the screen.

But please bear in mind, that restoring files in the Virus Chest, especially infected files, is just meant for critical situations (e.g. if your system or any other important file continues to be moved there). Because of the high security risk this course of action requires advanced experience and skills of handling infected files to prevent further potential infection of the computer.

» Submitting files from the Virus Chest to Avast Virus Lab

Any suspicious file, or file incorrectly recognized as a danger, could be submitted from your Virus Chest towards the Avast Virus Lab for further analysis. To submit files for virus analysis :

  1. Right-click on the desired file (or selected multiple files) in the contents table on the Virus Chestscreen and select the option Submit to virus lab… from the context menu.

  1. The application form appears. Select the sample type (either Potential malware or a False positive) and enter as much additional information as possible.

If you are submitting a False positive please specify the Program nameProgram publisherProgram version number, and reason why you believe the file or program should not have been detected.

  1. A confirmation appears and the file is submitted for analysis.

» Deleting files from the Virus Chest

Any file contained in the Virus Chest can be permanently deleted. This action is very simple :

  1. select the desired file (or multiple files) in the contents table on the Virus Chest screen,

…and select Restore at the bottom of the screen.
